Always Have A Backup Generator Nearby
It is not as though you have to keep the backup generator right next to the bed. However, it needs to be within easy reach should the power go out for too long. If the life support system cannot even be off for a minute without serious injury to your loved one, you will want to make sure that the emergency generator is directly hooked up to the power supply in that room. This way, if the power were to go out, the generator would automatically take over. You will not have to worry about any delay in receiving power.
Have The System Professionally Inspected
You will want to make sure that you are taking the time to call in a professional who can give a thorough inspection of the life support systems that you are making use of for your family or another loved one. In many cases, inspections should be done every few months. After all, this is a machine or a group of machines that are working non-stop. They never get a break. Therefore, they might wear out a little sooner than you would have hoped. If it is discovered that a machine, or part of it, is not working as well as it should, you will want to have it repaired or replaced immediately. In many cases, this is an expense that will be covered by the medical insurance company.
Keep Them Clear Of Other Things
One of the biggest mistakes some people tend to make is they allow the life support system to rest against curtains or they let personal belongings stack up against them. You do not want to do this. It is important to make sure that all filters and fans on the systems are able to function properly. If they are surrounded by various things, they will not be able to do that. Therefore, you will want to keep a few feet of space clear around the life support systems.
