If you recently purchased an air compressor for your business, you are going to want to make sure that you take proper care of your air compressor. Taking proper care of your air compressor requires you to understand the different parts of your air compressor as well as how to treat those parts.

#1 Drain the Air Out of the Receiver Tank

Your air compressor has a receiver tank. The job of the receiver tank is to hold the moisture that has been pulled out of the air before the air is sent through the compressor. As the moisture builds up inside of the receiver tank, it needs to be drained on a regular basis. If you live in a really humid climate, you are going to need to drain the receiver tank on a more regular basis.

Before you drain the receiver tank though, keep in mind that you need to release the air pressure first. After you do that, you can release the water from the receiver tank.

#2 Keep the Intake Vents Clean

In order to work, your air compressor draws in air. It draws in air through the intake vents. The intake vents have a filter over them that helps keep out dust and dirt particles. Over time, the filter will get clogged. You need to keep the filter and the intake vents clean in order to ensure that the air compressor can pull in the air that it needs without straining its system. If you work in a really dirty environment or in an environment where lots of dust is present, cleaning the intake valves and filter may be a task that needs to be completed a couple of times a week.

#3 Keep the Fasteners Tight

An air compressor machine creates a lot of vibration throughout it. This can cause the nuts, bolts, and screws on the machine to rattle loose over time. It is smart to check all over your air compressor on a regular basis and tighten up any loose bolts or screws that you find. If you use your air compressor every day, do this on a weekly basis. If you only use your air compressor a few times a month, this could be a monthly task instead.

#4 Inspect the Hoses

The hoses on your air compressor play a vital role in the function of the air compressor. Make sure that you check them for cracks and corrosion before using them each day. Once a hose develops a crack in it, the hose may continue to function, but not at the same rate as it should, which can stress out your air compressor. If you notice that a hose has a crack in it or is becoming corroded, replace it right away to reduce strain on your air compressor and increase efficiency.
